How to communicate with back home, while in Japan?

Communication with back home, for foreigners in Japan, can be quite a challenge sometimes. Everything has a different philosophy from the West: Mobile phones, Internet, Wifi hotspots, everything is different even from one European country to another, let alone in Japan!

There ARE free wi-fi hot spots, but you will mainly need a Japanese Mobile Phone with a Japanese connection and, well, some good knowledge in Japanese language, in order to figure things out!

So, we recommend the solution of POCKET WIFI !

Pocket WiFi

There is a relatively cheap solution for having portable wifi with you and connect from anywhere in Japan on the net with your smartphone, tablet, laptop or any other device! Speeds reaching up to 165 Mbps (!) and costs starting from as low as ¥870 JPY / day (for the first 5 days and then ¥300 JPY per every extra day). So, let’s say, for example, that you want the lowest speed pocket wifi (21 Mbps model should be more than enough even for Skype or other basic operations) for 7 days: That would cost ¥870 JPY (€6.55 EUR or $7.21 USD) per day for the first 5 days (that is, ¥4.350 JPY / €32.76 EUR / $36.06 USD for 5 days) plus the 2 extra days / ¥300 JPY day = +600 JPY (that is, plus €4.5 EUR or $5.00 US) = total ¥4.950 JPY / € 37.26 EUR / $41.06 USD FOR ONE WEEK

and if you rent it for say 14 days, that would be ¥4.350 JPY + (9×300) = ¥7.050 JPY / €53.10 EUR / $58.44 USD

You can order your own pocket wifi for the speed that you want and for as many days as you want from this website:
http://www.globaladvancedcomm.com/pocketwifi.html

You can even rent an iPhone, an iPhone SIM, an Android phone or an Android SIM card from this company, by providing your passport details.
